  19. This is a minor revision to MCS.  How minor?  The biggest change is
  20. my new mailing address!  In almost a year of general release, hasn't
  21. been a single bug report filed against version 1.00, credit for this
  22. goes mostly to the original group who beta tested that version.

  24. The basic item edit screen also has a new feature in the artist name
  25. and artist sort order fields.  If you press the F4 key, MCS will
  26. automaticially rearrange names like "Tom Petty" to "Petty, Tom".

  28. As always, many thanks to Bev Green of 1000 BBS for allowing me to
  29. use his board as a beta-test center and central distribution point.

  34. There is NO manual -- everything is in context sensitive help.

  36. There is NO registration form -- configure your printer, fill out the
  37. registration questionnaire, and a registration form will print.

  40. I scan the shareware conferences on the following nets:  EchoNet,
  41. NA-Net, ILink, and UI'Net (which echoes SmartNet).  Kindly send ANY
  42. comments, opinions, suggestions, bug descriptions, etc. to me in one
  43. of these conferences.  I scan these conferences daily, if you don't
  44. get a response within two weeks, please assume that there has been a
  45. mail failure and repost.

  48. will send you a list of boards which receive a direct distribution of
  49. MCS.  If you can't access one of these conferences, the visitor's
  50. line for 100BBS is (416)629-7259, you can post into the main board

  62. Q1: Can MCS handle other formats like 78 RPM records and the new CD
  63.     formats?
  64.  
  65. A1: YES.  Several users have had some problems with understanding how
  66.     to add new media types and formats.  The 10" 78RPM format is
  67.     listed in the standard distribution file under the "Vinyl" media
  68.     selection.  Technically, this isn't the right place to put that
  69.     format, because most 78's pre-date the invention of Vinyl!

  71.     Here's how to use the selection lists to add new media and formats
  72.     to the database:

  74.     To add a new format: eg. "CD-Mini"

  77.     -  Choose Configuration from the main menu
  78.     -  Choose Selection Lists form the configuration menu.
  79.     -  Move the cursor to highlight the "Optical Disc" entry.
  80.     -  Press F2 to display the contents of the list.
  81.        You will see a list of all current optical disk formats.
  82.     -  Press the "INSert" key to add a new record.  Enter "CD-Mini"
  83.        for the list entry, then press ENTER.

  85.     Now, when you select "Optical Disc" as the media, and press F3 on
  86.     the format field, the pop-up list will show the "CD-Mini" entry.

  88.     To add a new media: eg. "Sheet Music"

  91.     -  Choose Configuration from the main menu
  92.     -  Choose Selection Lists form the configuration menu.
  93.     -  Move the cursor to highlight the "media" entry.
  94.     -  Press F2 to display the contents of the list.
  95.        You will see a list of all media.
  96.     -  Press the "INSert" key to add a new record.  Enter "Sheet Music"
  97.        for the list entry, then press ENTER.
  98.     -  Press ESCape to return to the selection list table.
  99.     -  Press INSert.  When the form opens, enter "Sheet Music" for the
  100.        List ID.  IMPORTANT!! Make sure that you use the exact same list
  101.        ID as you gave for the new media entry.  If the new media was
  102.        "SheetMusic", you must enter the same name here.
  103.     -  Enter the name you want for the list, for example, "Types of 
  104.        Sheet Music", then press ENTER.
  105.     -  Press F2 to display the formats for "Sheet Music".  Since this
  106.        is a new media, there will be no entries, and you will be 
  107.        prompted for a list entry automatically.  You can enter whatever
  108.        format you want, such as "8.5 x 11", "11 x 17", or "Napkin".
  109.     -  Keep adding records by using the INSert key until you have all 
  110.        your formats defined.

  112.     Next time you add an entry, "Sheet Music" will show up as a possible
  113.     media selection.  If you pick sheet music, then press F3 when you are
  114.     on the format field, a list of all the formats you entered will pop 
  115.     up, and you can choose the format you want.

  117.     New or old, MCS can handle your music collection, no matter WHAT
  118.     it's stored on!!
